I think there are three groups. There’s the tankies that got deplatformed and created Lemmy to have a platform with no corporate owner. There’s the reddit refugees who wanted to get away from corporate controlled social media. Finally, there’s assholes who got deplatformed because they’re assholes. They aren’t philosophically in favor of the freedom of the fediverse, just that it gives them a means to keep being bad people that no one else allows.

Here’s the issue. Lemmy users are very against people losing control of their lives in general, contrary to what you imply. Most people here are against people losing control. The issue is, it’s not only the government that can do this. Corporations, businesses, and other entities can take it away too. We need the government to regulate these things to protect people. I don’t care to protect businesses. People should be free to do damn near anything they want as long as it doesn’t hurt others. A company/their employer should not be able to prevent them from doing what they want.

You don’t want freedom. You want another kind of control over you.

I would call myself an Anarchist. You’re the stupid person people think of when they hear the word, and it’s sad. Government regulation is absolutely required to protect people from losing power. Power structures are generally bad, which is why we need government to prevent them from forming in the background. When this doesn’t happen then people lose power because their options are removed so others can profit off of them easier.

  • The first thing I’ll say is the reason you’re more comfortable with Windows is because you’ve been using it for however long and learning to deal with the issues it has. The same needs to be done on Linux. You’ll have to learn how it works just like you forgot you did for Windows.

Second, along with logs like other users said, you have to know how to use a search engine well. Most issues will be easy to solve, but some may take some searching. The Arch wiki is a good resource even if you aren’t using Arch.

  • Linux users tend to give much better bug reports than Windows users (if they do at all). That alone is probably a good enough reason to do Linux first. There are many more good reasons when the first goal is getting it functional and not getting as many users as possible (who will probably hate it if they’re not a technically skilled user because there will be bugs).

You’re making an assumption their first priority is the number of users. I would suspect that isn’t true, and they’re aware Windows has more users.

Have you considered that there’s more than one person on the internet? One person can say one thing and another person say the opposite and no one has been a hypocrite.

Anyway, I’d say we should respect people’s right to practice what they want, but we can still make fun of it. I probably would say don’t do it to their face, but that’s up to you.

Well NASA is essentially botting. It’s not like they need to sit there and give it every input. They tell it what to do and it follows a program. I could bot with that much ping if my bit is running locally on the game’s servers. Basically: NASA is full of cheaters.
