A lot of people use Signal. It may not be the best solution out there, but it is so, so, so much better than the proprietary alternates.
One good thing is that a normie can easily use it as an alternative to WhatsApp, since the app design is so similar. I mean, it is easy for family and friends to understand and start using Signal, compared to something like Matrix or XMPP.
And if someone needs a little more hardening, they could use the fork called Molly, which has a few more security benefits over the stock app.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•[Shitpost] Government bodies that block your VPN
91·2 months agoI’m in India, and most government websites block VPN usage. I have to turn off my VPN to access them. There is no other way.
One more thing I have noticed is that when I using Mullvad’s ad-blocking DNS (just the DNS, no VPN), many government sites do not load, as in the domain name does not get resolved.

4·3 months agoI bought a film DVD from a local shop (pirated, of course) and 2 songs and a few minutes before the interval didn’t play properly, probably due to the disc being scratched or something.
If you’re wondering, “songs?”… It was a Bollywood film. We had a lot of songs in films. Now a days, there’s like 3 or 4 songs, ~3 minutes each. Up to around 2010, especially in the 80s and 90s films used to have 8-10 songs, some even 5-6 minutes long.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Request to speakers of languages other than English, French and German
2·3 months agoUmm… If you write दिन as दीन, it is supposed to sound different. First is din (shorter e sound), second one would be spoken as deen (llonger e sound). In some cases words could mean something else if these vowel sounds are different, but would not offend anyone. Same thing in Gurmukhi. Also, Punjabi can be written in Shahmukhi script (in which Urdu is written) which is actually the standard in Pakistan. In India, it is written in Gurumukhi only.

2·3 months agoHindi - कृपया दिन के अंत में कुर्सियों को इक्कठा करके रख दें। (Kripya din ke ant me kursiyon ko ikkattha krke rakh dein.)
Vocally, these two sound very similar, as if one is a different dialect, but are actually considered different languages. Also, I didn’t do exact translation, I used what someone would say when they mean this. Like instead of saying stacking, I am saying collect, bringing them together or something like that.

Tldr? What is shadow library scripts?
