Did you try Kodi? Also, I recommend reencoding your dvd rips to h264 with eAC3 audio.

Bottles was having the same issue. I was attempting to install SimTower off the CD copy I have and they all were having issues running. I believe it’s a permissions issue that I could figure out, but not sure. After spending hours i went down the distro route and it worked perfectly the first time. Was able to run the installation for the game and launch it from wine.
What Linux distro are you using? I’m on Aurora and wine doesn’t really work unless you install it from the distrobox.
I have a really hard time getting Aurora working the way all my other Linux devices so that are running some form of Ubuntu (Mate or Bodhi). With that said, it’s been very stable and i like not being interrupted with packages to install while working on things…
Mixed bag review. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
With Aurora, I was unable to get winehq working without installing it from a distrobox instead. I can now play SimTower on my Linux PC.
This sounds like the WP Engine debate.
I avoided transcoding by making sure to only host videos compatible with all clients. Also, I will spend the time to reencode codes that are too large for my taste. Which happens after a rip of uhd disks.
H265 with slow preset really works wonders for non-grainy film. AV1 is what you have to use when there is grain.
Tailscale is what I do. If you make an exit nice they can forever stay on your VPN… I think…
Yes.
Use a custom launcher. I use Flauncher as my home page so it only has jellyfin visible. No ads ever.
You can theme Kodi to look pretty close to Netflix, but not out of the box. As my library doesn’t update too often, I can live with the slower refresh as it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make for the ability to play everything in my library.
Really, for the moat compatibility, a PC with a wireless keyboard is going to 100% of the time work with subtitles.
I switched to Kodi on my Chromecast 4K to fix most of my video playback issues. However, I still have a few cases where Kodi can’t decode the subtitle track, so I use subtitle edit to extract out the srt. Also, getting Kodi to always play subs is tricky, so I remapped the up key on the remote to always enable subs.
Kodi is also slower to show library updates on start, maybe a minute or so later and then it’s don’t with the sync. Maybe I didn’t setup something correctly… Anyway, give it a try. On my Sony with google tv the jellyfin app is great.
Have you tried Kodi?
I love that we can reencoding the 4k HDR to 1080 while we retain the HDR color information. Looks great to me while saving a ton of space.
If it just language add the audio track to one of the mkvs. Ignore me I see your episodes are different cuts.
I found using Kodi helped resolve video codec support in my case. It was for AV1 nlon the Chromecast 4k, which doesn’t support AV1, it seems to mostly work for smaller AV1 encodes. I guess it is using software decoding.
Maybe the switch for me would require staging on a burner pixel that supported. I have a lot of shopping apps, that I may not need, but need some time on the testing phone to make sure everything works before taking the deep dive.
This is also how I made the switch off windows. Stagged it on a space older laptop to see what’s what.
I’ll get there…
If they remove it from the water, then change the availability to be OTC for multivitamins with fluoride. I want to be able to get it with our having a copay and whatever else the Dr wants to charge .
Sure you can convert the DVD to whatever codec, I have found the original mpeg stream to not be very compatible with my devices. When I did 264, it was more for speed. It’s a 480 p/I mpeg2 stream, I don’t think 265 is worth the extra CPU cycles for this case. This is also just an opinion. 👍
True about AC3 being left alone, but dts should be converted, I can’t seem to get that to bitstream as nice as Dolby tracks.
I do reencode my uhd rips, to bring them down to 1080. I only have one 4k display and it’s not worth the bandwidth to try and stream it for me.
