For real. Confirming the existence of any exo planet is a huge technological feat and yet now it’s happening non stop. The first ever confirmed exo planet was 1995 and now we’ve got a catalog of almost 6,000 confirmed. Wild times!

Years ago I was reading “Extreme Dog Owner” while it was being released and was blocked out of latest episodes. So when the artist stopped the series it took a while before I realized the last few episodes would never get unlocked for me. Sounds like the same situation? Minus the huge piracy warnings.

Yeah, maybe some kind of situation where you turn it on for “training time” with access to only specified files and systems on the computer, no internet access, etc. At the same time though, I wonder how much an AI could really streamline things. Would it just pre-load my frequent files and programs? Make suggestions or reminders on tasks? I don’t think we’re anywhere near the level where it could actually be doing work for me yet.

Interesting possibilities, but I’m not sure how useful yet.

A little while ago on the TWIT podcast one of the guests, or maybe Leo himself, was talking about how this is exactly what they want out of AI, for it to be able to know how they use their computer and just streamline everything. Some people are really excited about the possibilities, and yeah, the AI needs to track whatever you’re doing to know how to help you with your work flow.

That said, I don’t want Microsoft keeping track of everything I’m doing. They’ve already shown that they’re willing to sell our data and shove ads down our throats, so as much as they say we can filter out what we don’t want tracked, I’m not inclined to trust or believe them.

I’ve had the reverse issue, where I wanted to input a large amount of text for ChatGPT to work with. Tried to do a workaround where part of my prompt was that I was going to give it more information in parts. No matter how I phrased things it would always try to start working with whatever I gave it with the first prompt so I just gave up and did it myself.

Took me a second.

But man, I don’t write academic papers anymore, but I have to write a lot of reports and such for my work and I’ve tried to use different LLM’s to help and almost always the biggest help is just in making me go “Man, this sucks, it should be more like this.” and then I proceed to just write the whole thing with the slight advantage of knowing what a badly written version looks like.

I used to sail the seas like freakin Luffy, but Netflix and Steam (plus becoming a wage earning adult) got me on the straight and narrow for a good long while. Then when all the different services started to compete I started dipping my toes in the water again with some sense of guilt. But after various struggles getting Netflix running in different locations I frequent and my parents not being able to use my account anymore, I have no shame flying the Jolly Roger.

I read AC as Animal Crossing first and was so confused, especially about the power fantasy part.

No, first time hearing about it. Every source I looked at talks about Zim or Joplin, but Xournal looks good! So far between this and Rnote I’ve got good contenders for my note-taking app.

The handwriting here looks absolutely amazing! Just can’t see if this is a cross device thing from the site, don’t see a lot of documentation.

So far this one looks the most like what I’m familiar with, so probably will try it first! The save format not being stable might be a deal breaker for now though as like I said, I move between devices a lot.
