I can’t be the only one who has no issue seeing this right? It’s very obvious which is a palindrome and which isn’t.
Like you said, artificial lighting. Technically you’d get some IR from the planet itself which could get converted to visible light but definitely not nearly enough to be noticeable. You’d also probably get about 3 seconds of real reflected sunlight before that also goes away.

“Breaking orbit” still leaves you in almost the same orbit around the sun as the earth. You need to slow down a lot to bring the periapsis of the orbit within the suns surface.
