It’s called xenophobia, the fear and dislike of anything foreign. Some people believe that if your group isn’t dominant it will be dominated, and peaceful coexistence isn’t possible between different groups.
These people are afraid that, if the English language isn’t forced onto other people, one day other people will force a foreign language onto them.

All plants require different levels nutrients to grow. People laughed at ideas like the sun being the center of the solar system and doctors needing to wash their hands before surgery. Refusal to accept these ideas held humanity back from technological advancement.
People can learn more than one language. If you speak English you can learn Mandarin and increase the people you can communicate with by billions. There is no “one language” because people can know more than one language at a time

My understanding is anyone who follows the scientific method is taking part in science. Some fields can’t completely follow the scientific method for practical reasons and they’re called “soft sciences” (ex. economics, due to experiments being difficult to carry out). If the scientific method isn’t followed, it isn’t science.
