It doesn’t request location access, it doesn’t request contact or phone access, it doesn’t require you to sign into a microsoft account, it doesn’t constantly send data back home, etc… It only requests file permission and camera permission while you are using the app. A lot of apps harvest your data, and the entire Windows OS is built around harvesting your data and spying on your every click. This app doesn’t seem to do that as far as anyone can discern.
I use mine with Microsoft Lens (I know, but one of their best products that doesn’t spy on you) as a document scanner and then sync it to my document server paperless-ngx.
It can angle correct, color correct, and has good filters for b&w and greyscale that often make it look like a real document scanner if your phone has a decent camera.
Much better than drive or any of the open source options to be honest, sadly…
True, but it is also completely different use cases and they have different goals.
Windows on a 2-in-1 is also not as good as an iPad. They are desktop OS’s with tablet functionality as a nice to have. They will never be as smooth of an experience as a mobile-first OS.
The trade off is 100x better compatibility with many apps, especially FOSS. inkscape, krita, KiCAD, FreeCAD, coding IDEs, MATLAB/scipy, games, etc… They are all available out of the box without a mediocre mobile port.
The flexibility to functionally use it as a full-blown computer (and not reliant on a monopolized, centralized app store) is the reason you get it and not an iPad. Of course it won’t be as good as a tablet because it wasn’t made for that.
You can also say “the iPad will never be as good of a drawing experience as a dedicated high-end drawing tablet.” Like of course. That isn’t its function and goal.
Spinning metal storage is cheapish now, but now a 4K movie takes up a much larger amount of space.
If you measure storage by €/1 hour media with 4k HDR vs older prices and 720p, it is likely quite similar.
I got in one private tracker and I like that system a lot. I seed my torrents for years because I don’t do a ton of very popular stuff, and I like some older shows. Like The Mentalist season packs on TG are at like a 30:1 for me because not many others seed them.
However, the private tracker doesn’t use standard naming which sometimes fucks up searches and *arr, also, there are barely any seeders or leechers so a lot of media is hit or miss both downloading and uploading. Of the 50 or so things that I downloaded since I got on, 1 has a positive seed ratio, so thank mods for duration seed points…
For taking campaign notes, bookstack might be an option. It is specifically organized in a book, chapter, page hierarchy.
I also use it for my journal and to do list just because I already used it. Probably not as full featured as obsidian though

XPpen also has their own tablet drivers and is 5x the value of wacom. Wacom is the apple of drawing tablets and has been riding their own coattails for like 10 years charging ridiculous prices for old models without doing any innovation.
I think Huion also has Linux drivers now too, though their latest H1061P tablet has a hardware issue with bad pressure sensing.
Though OP was looking more for a standalone PC 2 in 1 tablet with a touchscreen that doesn’t have to be plugged in at all.
Why not just spin up Syncthing, sync your music between your phone and server, and then use one of the countless good local music players.
You own the music anyway, you have a limited library, and there is 0 delay having your music locally along with no buffering, offline access, and it will always be at max quality.
(Of course, not realistic if you have 500GB of music and no SD card slot in your phone)

AFAIK, there is no reasonable desktop CPU that is not either very underpowered compared to alternatives or a Mac. Wouldn’t framework need to work with a partner to design a whole desktop class of CPU like apple did?

For people and companies that can’t afford 25k-300k per year in licence and compute costs, there is yet to be a good standard way to estimate EM performance. Not to mention dedicated simulation machines needed.
That’s why these companies can charge so damn much. The systems are so complex that making a ton of assumptions to pump out some things by hand or with bulk circuit simulators often doesn’t even get close to real world performance.
If someone figured out an accurate method without those simulations, the industry could also save a shit ton of compute power and time.

Windows used to have a similar hidden feature that my friend used all the time to tracking his work projects, but they removed it some time ago.
This is a good idea. It could even be later expanded to a sort of “digital wellbeing” type use case with time limits or reminders on certain apps, etc…
