This is consistent with my experience. I didn’t have a paralysis demon, but I was convinced my ceiling fan was plotting to kill me. Not that it was going to fall and hurt but that it was scheming to have me assassinated and would take matters into its own hands if necessary.
I had the same impression at least 4 years ago as well. More privacy maybe but less security definitely.

Serial monogamy. Each partnership is between two people but a person may seek multiple partnerships simultaneously or in sequence.
But that’s not what compensation for the commute would incentivize. I don’t understand why people think getting paid to drive to work would mean employees would spend most of the week driving. It would mean employers would only hire employees who live upstairs.
