Valve is currently a private company, which is likely why they’ve been able to avoid enshittification for so long. All we can do is hope that whoever eventually takes over when Gabe steps down also has his ideals at heart.
Find me on Mastodon, if you want.

Ah I see. I don’t think there’s a way to do that yet.
If you’re so inclined, perhaps you could contribute to the discussion (or development) around tags on Lemmy here, since a feature like that would solve your issue.
Just block the community. It would have been faster than typing this comment.
I would say upvotes are thanks enough. But if you have something extra to say, then I’d say thanks in a comment and then give your extra information there.
For example, just “Thanks! That was useful/entertaining/enlightening/etc.” as a comment is pretty pointless, as an upvote conveys that exact message. Nothing more and nothing less.
If you have something more to say, then a comment would be appropriate. Perhaps something like: “Thanks! I did your X method with a bit of extra Y and now my car runs so much quieter!”.
This is especially true if your extra information would be useful to others who may also be reading the thread.
Wrong race that would upset my parents
Your parents aren’t going to date your partner, so their opinions on her race mean absolutely nothing. It’s like going to a restaurant with a friend and they tell you you can’t order salmon because they don’t like it. It’s not their food, so what they say doesn’t matter since they’re not eating it.
Feeling that my interest in the other person is not genuine and that I only see her as a sexual object
This felt a little too real to read. I know that feeling, and it’s not nice. I got no advice here, just letting you know you’re not alone in feeling it.
I have this dreadful feeling that I missed out on something important in life
The best part about life is that you get to define what’s important to you. Some people may find meaning in having a family, but it’s not the only objective way of finding meaning/purpose. You could find joy in creating things, exploring the world, even just working. There’s no secret formula or shortcut to finding it, and there’s definitely no hard rules about what it can be. I hope this helps you feel better.
I got my last 3 phones used, all were at a great discount, and all lasted about as long as you’d expect a new phone to.
I’ll continue buying used until new prices become reasonable again, and even then I will still probably buy used because it’s cheaper and helps combat ewaste (if only a little).
I love Zorin, probably for more superficial reasons than most. I like a clean UI and Zorin provides that by default, no fiddling. I get that people like customisability and ricing and all that, and if I could design my OS as easily as I could write CSS then I probably would, but I’ve yet to find something that lets me do that. And even if I do find it, Zorin still looks good and just works, which is most of what I care about.
It’s >!Portal 2!!<
Explanation:
!The powerful being/orchestrator is GLaDOS, the orphan is of course Chell, and the mental illness is Wheatley. I know that last one is a bit of a stretch, but he technically is if you consider that attaching him to GLaDOS to inhibit her “brain” functions is what he was designed for.!<
My guess is >!Half-Life!<.
Explanation:
!The engineer would be Gordon Freeman, the creatures would be the enemies from Xen, the security forces would be the soldiers, and the elderly man in a suit would of course be the G-Man!!<
A powerful being mentally tortures an orphaned girl through isolation and deadly “games” with dangerous machinery. Later, she begins hearing the voice of a mental illness, and through its advice manages to behead the orchestrator.
And that’s just the first half!
Everyone here is saying it’s fantastic and much better compared to 10 years ago, which is completely true.
However, the state of VR gaming is still pretty dire. You can get it working on some hardware setups, but not others, and it’s nontrivial to find out what’s going wrong. I’ve lost a couple of days trying to diagnose problems on multiple distros and it just doesn’t seem to work for me. It may work for you, but the chances are a lot lower than if you were to just play normal games.
Americans. Us Brits seem to be one of the few countries where everyone has an actual kettle.
I’d compare it to having AC in your house: Most people in the US (and other countries) appear to have it, but they’re basically nonexistent over here.
I technically use the stock launcher… from my first ever Android, the OnePlus One. It used to ship with CyanogenMod preinstalled, which had the Trebuchet launcher. I got used to that, so when CM died I found Evie on the Play Store which is a port of Trebuchet. I still use it to this day!
Yes, that’s what “no longer supported” means.
