Two reasons:

I always take window seats, and don’t really want to hop over someone to get to my seat.

And it also means I don’t have to fight for overhead space for my carry-on.

I don’t get it. I’ve been using Jellyfin from the LG app store on my TV since late 2022.

That’s a shame. When I wasn’t sure whether we’d actually make use of a bread machine, I picked up an entry level one for like $100 (Canadian).

Since then, we’ve made probably 100+ loaves, saving money and reducing both food waste and plastic. It’s been one of our best kitchen purchases.

I’d suggest trying a different recipe. It can make a huge difference to the end result.

If a paid streaming service give users a worse experience than pirating, that’s on them!

If the experience that a paying customer gets is worse than the experience they get from pirating, then that’s the fault of the company selling that enshitified experience.

It’s wild how modern businesses are trying to kill themselves with every terrible idea they have to make more money.

True story, it was a “get a free iPad” ad, and I kid you not, I ended up getting an ipad (with some effort and a few emails). It was an ad in an app.

Dr. Sbaitso popped in my head and I had to see if anyone here remembered it. I had the privilege of being able to use it when it came out. Fun times!

I haven’t had a SINGLE adblock message when I use YouTube with Adguard + Ublock origin and the FF “strict” option for privacy.

But I also don’t log into any accounts.

My wife was getting messages all the time (logged in) with the same adblockers. I installed an add-on that speeds up ads so fast that you don’t even notice them. LOL Problem solved!

Yeah, manufacturer refurbished is probably the safest bet.

I’ve purchased quite a few refurbished UPS systems, and the component that worry about most, the battery, is always new in these units. Never had issues with the units or the batteries, but it saved me hundreds of dollars. 👌

I guess the context in which this is applied to makes the difference.

In my home, I’m fine with keeping inventory when it makes sense.

Non perishable food, for example, has it’s own happy place in a corner of my home that wouldn’t otherwise be utilized. Stocking up on this inventory has demonstrably saved a lot of money vs. buying when needed.

During covid, my stockpiling years before allowed me to essentially not run out of anything or pay a premium on things that were either not available or overpriced during the first year of the pandemic.

Keeping a stockpile also means that I’m not wasting time, gas, energy, or money running out multiple times a week to pick up necessities. I just take from my inventory, which would be at a lower price than the current price, and I move on with my day.

If I had to only buy certain things when needed, I estimate that I’d likely be overspending by at least 30% + whatever time and transportation costs to make those errand runs.

For me, inventory is a way to save money, save time, and it gives you a buffer when shortages happen.

This is at the expense of space, so if you have free (wasted) space, you might as well take advantage of it.

I saw a video, I believe it was about refurbished gaming consoles, and the guy was showing that often times companies just blow dust out and don’t do anything of value to refurbish the consoles.

Considering that you get a shorter warranty with refurbished items, I don’t think it’s worth it unless you know what exactly was done to the item.

That’s one way to never get the best experience out of something, though.

Buy cheap shoes to go running, and you’ll probably quit after a few weeks.

Buy cheap tools, and you’ll end up rounding off nuts and stripping screws.

Buy a cheap bike and you’ll end up hating cycling.

Etc.

Better would be to buy the best quality for your budget, assuming it’s something you’ll be using more than once or is something that isn’t critical to have as decent quality.

table salt, iodized salt, himalayan… they’re all the same for me. I don’t think my taste buds are adapted to the subtle differences so cheaper ones are better.

Do yourself a favor and find some blue salt. It’s absolutely better/different in flavor vs those other ones!

But as far as salt goes, you have to know when and how to use it. Finishing salts are generally added on top of food, and not mixed into recipes. You also don’t want to use table salt as a finishing salt.

But try the blue salt. Seriously.

Water + rice + frozen mixed vegetables + plant-based protein source (beans, frozen faux chicken, TVP chunks, etc) + seasoning.

Throw it in a pressure cooker and you’re done. Maybe 30 seconds of effort for a healthy, hearty, inexpensive meal
