Partially Correct. A meme is a culturally developed information based replicator. It would be better to say, this meme has poor replication potential, rather than “it is not a meme” or “it is a bad meme”. It is not a necessity that the meme be altered, though it may be. Base instructions/archetypal structure which delineates it from other memes needs to stay basically the same and increases the memetic transmissibility. (Blackmore, 2019)
You don’t have to go back in time mate. Just look up herbalist companies in America. Legitimately making millions off of fake treatments for a miriade of things. The FTC and FDA have to constantly combat these types of shams. Covid-19 was one of the biggest booms for these sham businesses. Right now you can go and find them selling mineral water as a cure for everything. Check out the book Educated. It talks about how an abusive doomsday prepper family turned their paranoia into a thriving business selling fake cures to idiots.
