Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Imagine the US holding a "Cost-of-living crisis" protest of 100+ million. Even the army and police protest. You are tasked with making *the* list of demands. What would be on this list?
51·13 days agoIf I’ve got 100 million people behind me we’re not doing “congress” or “presidents” any more
For like… 0.002 seconds it’s gotta feel real great

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is everyone in America just constantly crashing out right now, or acting normal by their standards?
11·1 month agoI have a “conservative” friend. We both had a bit of a crashout discussion last night. We’re American.
The economy is crashing in front of our eyes. We’re both extremely privileged and lucky and we both recognize it and we recognize how fucking stupid everything is in our society. We recognize we’re powerless to even change the nature of our jobs.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How can you increase your likelihood of surviving a robbery?
12·4 months agoFirst, I don’t trust the police.
Complying might be the best option in a number of scenarios but like I originally said every situation is going to be different. We can easily game out situations where complying would be the worst option for survival.
The question is pretty absurd. Even if, on the whole complying would increase survival in an “armed robbery” situation, it really isn’t actionable advice.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How can you increase your likelihood of surviving a robbery?
22·4 months agoReal talk. How on earth do you think this works? There isn’t a magic sol toution here. There’s no way to increase your survivability, realistically. You can try to be as prepared as possible, I suppose, but these situations are so rare and random and case by case there’s no real way to increase your odds to not be killed as a blanket statement.

While true, my point was that this is a thought experiment to show that subtracting infinite countable sets from infinite countable sets does not leave you necessarily with an infinite countable set.
In this particular case it would still be infinite train proof people. But consider the infinite set of natural numbers. If the train killed only left handed people, you should still be left with infinite train proof right handed people. If, however you ran another train through the set that killed right handed people you would be left with no train proof people. In actual fact, though, the infinite set of “people killed by a train” is probably 100%.
I was actually told this is not how infinite sets work. But I didn’t get an actual explanation beyond that.
