I used garuda for a while when doing Android stuff and was really surprised that a lot of things like adb, fastboot and all the filetransfer stuff was working out of the box without even having to setup any android sdk, drivers, … . Not really a distrohopper however, so I can’t tell you if this is a common feature on other distros.

Typical issue of the corportate programming world being a hivemind. Just because many big tech companies use it you can’t blindly implement it for your 5 developer team.

And it for sure has its usecases - like if you run something with constant load swings that does n’t need to be 100 percent accurate like Youtube it makes sense. You can have a service for searches, comments, transcoding, recommendations, … which all scale independently trading in some accuracy. Like when you post a comment another person doesn’t need to see it within 1 second on another comment service instance.

Really? From my experience the opposite is the case. I work on a smallish team with 3 other developers and we also have a few spring services with < 100 classes and we constantly run into issues where making changes to a bean causes issues in another unrelated part of the codebase. I can’t imagine what a nightmare it would be with a larger codebase and more devs working on it.

Is this even a joke? In Spring DI beans are nothing but glorified over complicated global variables.

yeah, also the constant wait times when you install APK… it used to be a decent OS but starting with MiUi 11 they started really enshitifiying big time.

No x86 is pretty much the only Platfrom I’m aware of where you can build a generic Kernel that will work with pretty much any hardware configuration out of the box.

Probably not what you wanna hear but a Galaxy Tab S6 with Termux, Dex and Keyboard is pretty great.

I don’t really see it. Like I expected the iOS Resident Evil 4 remake to perform about the same as the PS4 Version but its way worse.

I’m more concerned that the web will get even slower and bloated. We are already seeing the first frameworks that ship a webassembly .NET runtime, Python runtime, JVM, … . I kinda fear that in 10 years when you visit a site you need to download runtime xyz in version abc for the 1000th time. All because some people or companies just can not be bothered to learn any new technology.

Sounds a lot like the Android 4.X and 2.X days. Its unfortunate that Google over time has locked down Android more and more. I mean having the option to do wild stuff is better than not having it.

The only real usecase I could see is with a proper Desktop Mode like DEX on High end Samsung phones or Motorola’s ready for. Where you can plug your phone into a Monitor and attach a physical keyboard and mouse. In that case, yeah it would be neat to break out of the Android jail.

Love it or hate it, Android is extremly fast, polished, stable and easy to use, not to mention it has gigantic library apps that are built to work perfectly with a touchscreen.

I honestly don’t really get what there is to gain by using “Desktop Linux”. I mean sure some proper Programs offer way more features than Apps but using them on a 6.5" Touchscreen sounds like pain.
