It’s for safety, to protect any unexpected insertions, you first want to wrap parts in rubber. Otherwise you get a virus.

Kinda, but some hardware need drivers. So it sorta depends.
Id recommend you install “top” (I know nix funny names) and if run it, will show processes sortable by resource. But I think you are fine.
“more” allows you to view files. And agreed, if used incorrectly, might cause extra CPU. Generally mistakes like this just become memory hogs.
On Linux systems running systems I usually use the journalctl tool to look at messages. Ex.
journalctl --list-boots journalctl --since=“2012-10-30 18:17:16”
