In the military when learning ORM we called this the “swiss cheese” theory.
The more layers of sliced swiss cheese, the fewer holes that go all the way through.
Yeah like JFC the most insecure way to access the Internet let’s just open it up to the whole world.
The issue is if you tune them out what’s left? It’s most of the content here.
Hell just the other day there was a “what new tech thing have you done this year?” And 95% of the responses were just some variation of “Installed Mint/PopOS!/Endeavour and started using Firefox.”
Like it’s great that you’re making the transition, but I was hoping to hear what new self hosting service people got working on their home server, some new residential network installs for security platforms, etc.
Not just “I changed browsers.”
How much of the revenue is actually going to Rowling for the product?
How do you know the bots aren’t already here? What security fortress does Lemmy have that reddit doesn’t which stops bots from being here?
Plus they think the stupidest shit matters.
Earlier I saw people complaining about the Hogwarts game because of JK Rowling. Yeah, don’t play the videogame based on the book series that was written by a transphobe. Cause somehow that means the videogame and it’s developers are all transphobic too?
Someone should tell them transphobic people breathe oxygen, maybe they’ll suffocate themselves as activism.
Well there’s only a few hundred people commenting and a lot of initial transfers have stopped using the site because it only caters to extremist views. Hell even I’m about to just stop and use Tildes exclusively.
Personally I’ve never seen it the way everyone claims, from day one this place seemed to just be the worst of reddit, but who knows.
“Dictator authoritarian gives lip service to the powers that they’ve always been ideologically aligned with on the world stage.”
I’ve never installed Windows 11 outside of assisting company IT, but we have install media/network based images we can push.
I’m referring to W10, I don’t like 11 at all.
It’s funny because I’ve built like six Windows machines and the install process is always a snap. You just select what drive to install to, what telemetry options you want on/off, and then press start.
You don’t even have to have an Internet connection/Microsoft account if you don’t want to, you can just create a local one.
I don’t understand how you guys have such a hard time with it. Certain distros of Linux are pretty easy to get going, but Windows is only hard if you refuse to leave your Linux knowledge bubble, ever.
Sure we can talk about how you have to go in and do X and Y in order to get it configured how YOU want, but that shit applies in Linux too.
Like 75% of my basic training division was either inner city poverty escapism or rural poverty escapism.
Ironically that became the uniting force of those people, something they could understand when everything else about the person is different.
I had a similar experience but with a book about Dinosaurs that contained scientifically accurate eons, etc.
I started to piece together that while we might not be 100% correct all the time, YEC doesn’t even have an alternative. They just try and debunk evolution but have no scientific method/knowledge that proves they’re correct.
Where’s all the geological science that shows a 6000 year old earth? None. There should be competing theories, but instead it’s just “you’re wrong, trust me bro.”
No one is pointing a finger and saying Linux isn’t capable, they’re saying it currently cannot run certain programs which is true. Why it can’t is irrelevant, to the user it just can’t.
Honestly that’s more like network engineering than programming, but you’re surprisingly accurate.
Not to be nitpicky but this advice is meant more for things like car tires and shoes than patio furniture.
Did they go full ghost recon with it? Just absolutely massive open worlds?
I really enjoy the Arasaka tower nuking sequence, the rebel path blazing while you blow people in half with your .50 cal pistol can’t be beat.
I loved the modern sections of the first two games (Ezio trilogy is one game for this comment’s purpose) and never played three, so when I got black flag and found out retroactively that they killed off Desmond and didn’t intend for a modern day assassin’s creed to be the endgame I quit playing them.
Just in time too, cause they’d have clearly just kept milking the franchise to death in the past decade.
Yeah, not using it isn’t going to help you when the bottom line is all people care about.
It might take junior dev roles, and turn senior dev into QA, but that skillset will be key moving forward if that happens. You’re only shooting yourself in the foot by refusing to integrate it into your work flows, even if it’s just as an assistant/troubleshooting aid.
