  • Jellyfin is 90% plex, and it’s impressive how it comes forward in leaps and bounds, but it’s not better than plex. People just appreciate it more.

If you only need that 90% that it does (and don’t need things like intro detection, conversions, mobile sync, ass/sas subtitles), then you’ll come away super happy with not having to pay plex and not being locked into plex.

It doesn’t really do much over that 90%, it’s just neat that the 90% isn’t plex

  • I’m gonna just preface this by saying Nintendo suck and I don’t agree with what they are doing.

But it’s worth understanding what is happening here, nintendo isn’t just throwing random legalize against the wall to find something that sticks. They are specifically going after yuzu via a fairly well tested part of the DMCA.

The DMCA allows them this, and if you don’t feel like nintendo or anyone else should get to dictate what device you play the games you own on, you should be looking into whatever you can do to pressure your representatives to add to the many exceptions of that dmca clause for this purpose.

  • I’ve been around open source for 20+ years and can tell you right now that it don’t work that way. An issue tracker and a wiki is not a community.

Most older open source communities were built on irl connections and irc, with some mailing lists thrown in. Hell, we even funded conferences just around the software, not to sell a product but just because it’s good for everyone to be talking to each other.

The issue tracker tracks the status of things, the wiki is generally user focused. It’s not where development happens or thinks get built.

  • So yeah, people have gotten hrtf surround sound stuff going with pulse audio, some searching around that should get you where you want.

Butt your last statement about games being “unplayable” in stereo is pretty silly, too, so I want to call that out. Don’t be silly. They aren’t “unplayable”, you aren’t “locked out,” thats silly. 99% of people that have ever played that game played in stereo.
