People say birds are dinosaurs because every living thing is in every clade of it’s ancestors which means they are dinosaurs. They’re also a lot of other things from all of the other clades so they’re not saying that birds are just dinosaurs, but that they are part of Dinosauria and every other clade of their ancestors and so too will all of their descendants be.

Nothing exists in a vacuum. Once someone believes one thing without evidence, they are likely to believe more things without evidence and people act on their beliefs. That’s the fundamental problem, believing things without evidence. Once you are comfortable with having that door open, it doesn’t stop at one thing and nothing else.

That’s the opposite of why he said that though. He said that because he felt that the things that seemed random couldn’t actually be random and that there was something more that they didn’t understand. In other words, he felt he didn’t know enough and wanted to learn more. Not sure where you came up with the idea that he wasn’t interested in learning more.

  • Dante’s Inferno went into detail that was not biblical, but there’s enough in the bible that writing it off completely is cherry picking.

“They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

"And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

“And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

  • Because there is no downside

Sure, unless you care about LGBT+ people not being discriminated against and murdered. And unless you care about teaching strong critical thinking to avoid conspiracies including anti-vax. And unless you care about the future of the planet in the face of climate change which is largely ignored by religious people who are more focused on the next life than this one. And unless, and unless, and unless…

    There are tons of downsides.

As the only way in which the human condition can be contextualised is in a world that is created, and religions are the keepers of that knowledge.

Yeah no, we can contextualize with rational thought, it’s just that more work needs to be done that has historically been stifled by religion considering they have historically killed people who didn’t go along with them. Religions don’t have some monopoly on knowledge in this field, what they have is some shit they just made up, some of which works, and a lot of which doesn’t. But they have no methodology by which to test which parts work and which don’t so they just push all of them regardless.

Many of them are religious and believe plenty of things they didn’t directly observe. It’s more that they have been trained through religious thinking that if someone confidently claims something it must be more true than someone who honestly admits that “it is the best we can know right now and we will update our understanding as we obtain more evidence.” These people need the answer now and that answer can’t change because changing your opinion based on new evidence is seen as weakness and opinions should be handed down from on high and never change.

Except that it is a proven fact that public health care costs less per capita than private, so actually it sounds less expensive. The people lobbying to keep it private are the only ones who stand to lose and their brainwashed army of sycophants can’t understand anything beyond the points they’ve been trained to parrot.
