If we’re talking fencing maybe? Sure? I wouldn’t know I’ve not trained fencing. You’d know better than I. If we’re talking actual combat where I’ve trained a tiny bit with the sword and staff, I mean there’s just ways around that. Where I hold my sword or staff or whatever has little bearing on my defensive range. You’re just assuming you’re much faster than me because I’m guessing that’s what fencing is more about. But that’s with something extremely light and flexible. If where you held your weapon was all that was too it people would have been much less inclined to use say a giant battle axe. Also an actual fight ends quickly id never risk being inside your weapon range unless I knew I had a good shot. There’s no constraint on me attacking first or having to attack you a specific way.

Yeah no it’s totally realistic, but my arm is still probably much longer than yours.

Who’s to say they can’t dodge you as well? If they’ve got a reach advantage already tall doesn’t necessarily equal slow. If you’ve got a sword and I’ve got a spear as long as I keep my distance you can dodge a lot but you’ll be hard pressed to hit me unless you get inside my range.

I think I’d shoot for something like this for maybe a project 2 or so. I’ve messed a bit with cpal already because I wanted to mess around with doing some basic dsp stuff so I’d love to do a full easy effects replacement with this included. Or alternatively include something basic in the settings project I mentioned a bit higher up

This is some sage advice thank you. I’m guilt of always starting something super difficult and then going back. My first couple qt projects were forcibly scoped because I had actually end users I needed to keep in mind and that helped immensely.

These are all some very good ideas. I particularly like the ffmpeg idea. I do think a file manager is on the horizon for me eventually as well, I’ve always wanted to try making one

I’d love to do something this big in scope eventually maybe a couple projects down the road but I’d definitely want rust to be at the level of my main languages before I delve into that depth. I also would want to avoid the gimp development times it seems it takes forever for stuff over there

I think this a pretty good idea. There’s a few other ideas below as well that are like settings tweaks or ui for them, it might be cool to build out something kinda like what opensuse has with a bunch of settings put into a graphical app.

Really im just waiting for ladybird. I use safari on my apple devices because of battery life and Zen on Linux and Mac devices for ublock and foss. I’m ngl every time I use a chrome based browser though I’m reminded how websites are supposed to work everything is about 1 billion times faster. I sure hope ladybird will allow me to finally not browser hop / hate my browser. There’s no need for new browsers that aren’t foss at this point.
Yep! Guess it’s time to fork!
I’m in orange country currently so there aren’t any alternatives. It curve was here I’d probably be off iOS honestly. I genuinely use nfc payments that much that often that it’s a big necessity for me.
As far as I know Samsung is the worst option for security and privacy. Also good news iPad has the health app now
Can’t use graphene unless my primary because android because of the Intune stuff
I’m definitely skeptical of anything closed source in general but there isn’t too much on the contrary, so it’s just a matter of one company makes money on data and on doesn’t. I’m sure they both collect similar amounts of data though.
I guess I’m asking for thoughts on a solution. My options are basically A) Keep iPhone as main, use stock pixel 9 as work no changes. B) Use graphene + watch and somehow try to hack a way into Intune setup properly, lose a little bit of functionality. Probably would return pixel and trade in iPhone for pixel 10 and wait for graphene, since I value the MagSafe. C) Get a different iPhone as a second for or upgrade current phone to use current as old phone. Probably most expensive option if the latter. D) not care at all about having my personal device slightly managed and just put Intune on it.
Yeah you make a good point. I saw an article recently that Apple is considering using ads in Apple Maps so maybe the companies are moving closer together and it doesn’t really matter that much anyway. How would a degoogled stock pixel phone compare to an iPhone do you think?
Sorry perhaps I could have been a bit clearer. One of the devices is going to end up having Intune on it for work, is the somewhat complicating factor. I realize I could make the iPhone my “work” and just but Intune on there but I guess ideally I’d like to have 0 personal related stuff on a phone that has anything to do with work if possible. Perhaps if graphene worked with Intune work profiles I could just do 1 singular device of graphene + watch? But I looked through some threads and didn’t seem like it was super clear cut
