When copying or moving, msdefender might delay every file copy because it marks the action as suspicious and begins scanning the files beforehand. • video evidence
• cellphone data linking him to a route away from the scene

He can go for an insanity plea or extreme emotional disturbance, however this usually goes to the punishment phase and not the trial phase, making this almost irrelevant for the conviction.

The one thing he has going for him is jury nullification. This is legally dubious and usually can and should not be argued, for very legitimate reasons; however the jury can make their decision basically without justification and therefore this is very plausible. For only external vpns mullvad is pretty good. Also, tailscale is free and their node-based system is really good.

As an all-in-one solution proton is pretty much as good as it gets from what I’ve seen. One of my friends swears by it as well.

It really does seem that the only step up in security is deploying a wireguard or ovpn server yourself, which is a little more complex. Not arch Linux levels of complexity, but intermediate tinkerer levels of complexity.

I switched during the third party app thing. I still Google “problem reddit” if I need good answers but Lots of stuff from reddit I never needed and some stuff was actually throwing me off. Not a Linux nerd but just to make sure you checked the basics: did you verify integrity of the OS image? Are you able to verify your USB, memory and HDD all work in isolation?
