Usually dual boot on the same drive is where things break.
Windows tends to play Pac-Man with other operating systems in those cases.
But either way happy you got it running and enjoy :)

I mean sometimes you gotta trick the compiler to get a leg up in runtime.

No. The whole thing is just weird. The only thing this could be is grooming. But he was grooming you, if he knew your age. You can’t be grooming him; you were 13.
This could have ended worse, but from what you’re describing in the post, you just had some really weird messages with a stranger online.

I can also tell you that if you are working with file numbers in the 10,000, windows will notoriously interfere with their built-in services. When copying or moving, msdefender might delay every file copy because it marks the action as suspicious and begins scanning the files beforehand. And also the trkwrks or however that drive observation service is called may block actions on specific files just because.
In short, you are not only fighting drive formats at that point, you are also fighting your built-in system services. Source: I wanna die.

This post is a master class in framing.
You sound delightful to be around.

This
Don’t get me wrong, ethically this situation becomes very complex, but let’s not kid ourselves: the evidence is unfortunately very strong. In fact this is one of the easier cases for the prosecution to try imo.
To prove intent under the statute of Murder 2 in NY they have:
Cause of death is self-evident.
There is no legal justification applicable here (self defense, …)
There’s also a chance this will get a terrorism enhancement. Supporting evidence would be the targeted nature, the casings and manifesto.
He can go for an insanity plea or extreme emotional disturbance, however this usually goes to the punishment phase and not the trial phase, making this almost irrelevant for the conviction.
The one thing he has going for him is jury nullification. This is legally dubious and usually can and should not be argued, for very legitimate reasons; however the jury can make their decision basically without justification and therefore this is very plausible. The probability is a different question which is hard to answer.
I do not like murder, but I sympathize a lot with him, however especially because of that I also have to keep it realistic and accept that legally the case against him is pretty strong.
TL;DR there’s strong evidence against him, and if there’s no jury nullification he will most likely be convicted.

For only external vpns mullvad is pretty good. Also, tailscale is free and their node-based system is really good.
As an all-in-one solution proton is pretty much as good as it gets from what I’ve seen. One of my friends swears by it as well.
It really does seem that the only step up in security is deploying a wireguard or ovpn server yourself, which is a little more complex. Not arch Linux levels of complexity, but intermediate tinkerer levels of complexity.
I stopped doing it because maintaining that shit and debugging it everytime it breaks just sucks. Tailscale is easier. Still not happy with the amount of trust I put into tailscale though.

Hobbyist (not a security expert here) but using a VPN that’s trusted should be fine. Your security hinges on proton’s reputation but from what I know they’re pretty good. If I’m wrong please correct me in the comments and I will edit this comment.

I switched during the third party app thing. I still Google “problem reddit” if I need good answers but Lots of stuff from reddit I never needed and some stuff was actually throwing me off. The insanely strict rules, mods on Reddit being assholes (there’s less of them on Lemmy I wanna think) and the depression inducing pessimism.
I cut out politics from my feed (works 90% of the time) and always browse “new”. Good memes, some niche communities and a very diverse and interesting community. Sometimes a little bit too forceful in their perspective but I love all the lemmings on here.
So how did I do it? I think it was a natural fit for me. But only browsing “new”, avoiding politics and joining some niche communities helped.
Also no one is forcing you :)
Take your time and maybe when the time is right you will wanna switch over completely. No one will force you on here, but I think that’s exactly why this platform is so good.

Singleton Container ship representation

Stock Samsung A something. Like the others are saying, if I wanna run maps and things like that it’s just easier to leave it as is. Might revisit if chat control comes though, that shit is vile.

So you’re saying this planet’s DND party just has bad dm?

God fucking shit it breaks me heart to hear that. I’m so sorry for your loss.
My mom is quite pro science and my dad became a bit spiritual, conspiratorial and anti-science, but none of them were hit that hard. I feel like I’m in the opposite situation where I technically can try to convince him to change his mind every time I see him but he is extremely stubborn and there’s no way. In fact it will make him dig in deeper and the only way for him to change is by himself.
Fuck this timeline I want a reroll.

That is spot on. Usually you would expect the manual to be hit and miss when it comes to troubleshooting but Microsoft is consistently miss, skipping the important parts and details.
Iirc that means it’ll stay a webp, some program will just fail to open them and the once that can only do it because they recognize the file header and therefore disregard your file extension shenanigans.
What I’m saying is if you do that it’s funny but also completely useless.

Hateful is always a weird word imo because it describes that the Internet is full of hate, and I’m sure there’s lots of it. However, the Internet is vast and you will find too much of everything everywhere. So theres platforms with abnormal amounts of positivity and hate, but there’s also platforms for weird niches, platforms for scientific discourse and everything.
So generally I would say no to both. Lemmy tends to skew a bit towards Europe and towards elitist but that’s a very light skew and I’m still trying to assess tropes you find lots of on here. Well except for reddit hate. But that’s historical.

Not a Linux nerd but just to make sure you checked the basics: did you verify integrity of the OS image? Are you able to verify your USB, memory and HDD all work in isolation?
My first hunch on this is hardware issue, because you get hard shutdowns from what I can gather. I could be wrong though, I only install OS occasionally.

I am not a feminist.
Feminism has a variety of different flavors with sets of specific ideals that are not a priority in my view, however the basic idea of equal rights is definitely important to me. The more I think about it, the less I feel I know what I’m talking about which is also why I don’t wanna signify I have strong foundational knowledge on this topic. “Equality” is kind of baseline and not what you expect most kinds of feminism to expand to.
Fucking hell I didn’t know they even went across different drives now. I’ll keep using promox then lol
