That cheaper 88 octane fuel is a blend of 85% unleaded gasoline and 15% ethanol. It’s also known as E15 fuel.

The ethanol is an oxygenate: it adds oxygen atoms to the fuel mix so the fuel burns more completely. That’s good for vehicle emissions. However, the ethanol is less energy dense than gasoline so you will get slightly worse mileage.

World War 2 vastly overshadows all other conflicts. Something like 3.7% of the global population died. Some individual countries lost more than 10% of their populations. No other conflict, or group of regional conflicts, comes anywhere close.

I wish the graph in the link had an option to normalize by population. I bet a graph of war deaths as a percent of global population would look very peaceful over the past 50 years.

Mostly in cars. The people that are marginally better-off have old RVs. The people who can’t afford wheels will hide a tent in the bushes. Vehicle or not, everyone seeks out similar places where they are unlikely to be noticed or hassled: lightly-used dirt roads on public land, parking areas at trailheads, closed campgrounds, behind abandoned businesses on the edge of town, etc.

Lemmy is also finicky about federating certain actions between instances. If you watch the modlog you will sometimes see a user be banned, unbanned, and then immediately rebanned. That’s a mod or admin trying to get content removal to federate out to other instances.

That happened in the case of the spammer here ~3 hours ago. Their content was removed from their home instance but it stayed up in this community. It’s gone now, though.

These comments remind me of the Occupy Wall Street protests back in 2011. That movement also didn’t lead to immediate law or policy changes at the national level, but it seems to have left a more subtle mark that is still with us. Income inequality has remained a hot topic, states have raised minimum wages, and UBI proposals are being discussed more seriously (at least in certain circles).

Life insurance companies could conceivably do this already. They sometimes ask for blood tests (among other exams) as a precondition of granting overage.

Whining about zoomers is inline with tradition. Humans have been complaining about younger generations for thousands of years.
