If you got a Nvidia dGPU I recommend PopOS. It gave me the best energy options and ability to switch between iGPU and dGPU out of the box. It even found new firmware for my T480 and installed it without a hitch.
Not specific for learning, but you can put any command into ExplainShell and it breaks down the individual parts for you.
I used this Guide (KVM +qemu) in a previous installation. I’m an intermediate Linux user and got it working without much trouble. Maybe it will fit your use case

The battery setup is great as well. One internal battery plus an external you can choose depending on your needs. Either small and light for a bit more juice or big and heavy for max runtime.
I got one 6 months ago and couldn’t be happier.
545.29.06 I had the problems for quite some time with different driver versions
Neat little guide (Arch, systemd) to set up automatic snapshots when you run a pacman/yay update and the option to chose snapshots in grub during startup. Really useful.
You could check out c/datahoarder. They should be able to tell you about brands, reliability, best practices …
