Not really. My employer provides win11 too, but I do over 60% of my job on debian machines running in hyper-v. (the other 40% are administrative tasks and work restricted environments)

Linux@lemmy.ml•Please please please help me with a windows install
3·1 month agoI fear the day my garmin forerunner 305 dies on me … I push and pull all directly in gpx format using just my debian desktop. It auto-imports into workout-tracker too
Have you considered gadgedbridge? I use it for my huawei band instead of the huawei apps. Everything lands in a sql database you can even query directly using sqlite3 and script around the data

Linux@lemmy.ml•Please please please help me with a windows install
21·1 month agoIf you want dual boot, then usually: install windows, repartition and install linux.
But… Why not just run windows as a vm on your linux desktop? Not wine and the likes, just a vm in virtualbox or boxes or kvm

Linux@lemmy.ml•Installing Debian for the first time. Wish me luck!
6·4 months agoWhat desktop environment should I choose
That’s the beauty … You can change any time you want (sudo tasksel) withjout losing your data. or install all of them and choose one each time you login

10·4 months agoYou make it sound religious. Did i join a religion deccades ago and not knowing it?
All breaches i’ve seen so far where either “i tought it was safe” or the “yeah it looked a bit suspicious but I clicked it just to see”
Make my own gluhwein alike drink. On 1dec i take a jar, and put in
- 3 star anis
- 7 cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- grated orange peel
- 3 crushed peppercorns
- vodka till everything is fully submerged
Close lid, store dark and shake once a day. On christmas eve: filter out the solids an mix the vodka with a bottle of red wine. Serve warm
If you don’t trust it …Then why not simply replace it.? They are not that expensive anymore and peace of mind is worth something too. Especially when switching to pfsense
Boil it and serve it in a bowl, not on your plate. (You can’t get all the water out and I HATE it when water seeps out to the rest of my meal)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think Trump will fall because of the new Epstein emails?
10·5 months agoHe’s like teflon … Nothing sticks.
But once there is a minor scratch, it will become completely worthless in no time at all. Now it’s not IF but WHEN that scratch happens

Linux@lemmy.ml•What distro do you install on other's computers?
6·6 months agoElementary on my wife’s, the rest of the family manages mostly. Outside family I now go to great lengths to avoid it. I just help them find the right distro and guides.
Otherwise some will see you as 1st 2nd and 3rd line support as well as hardware engineer from installation onward. Kind of the same as in the past when tv’s could be repaired. If they know you can do it, your done for. You have not stated working hours nor tariffs. And why pay for parts? You probably have boxes full of all kinds of stuff. (Including a demand to come over and fix stuff on xmas eve at 22:00)
I know, it sounds bitter, I’m not. Or …well over this point maybe a bit, I enjoyed helping out until too many saw it as a right and not a favour.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would it be possible to shut down the internet, and how could that be done?
7·7 months agoIt might die slowly if you take down all root dns servers and keep them off long enough.
Maybe if you disturb BGP between isp’s enough
but I can’t see how either can be done, it’s quite resilliant

Privacy@lemmy.ml•McDonald's not lovin' it when hacker exposes rotten security
13·8 months agoThnx but no thanks. Not eating McD even if i can order it for free.
You could try and remove the power supply, the batteries and the cmos battery. Then use the power-on button a few times (won’t start but could help drain all components of residual charges.
Now put it all together again and hope for the best.
- Power off. Power on and keep pressing <F1> to get into bios
- Turn off secure boot again
- Exit and save values
- Keep pressing <F12> to get into the boot menu
- Try booting linux and take it from there

Opt-out not working ? I’m stunned !! /s
