To be fair, the factory management knew that it was dangerous but didn’t tell the workers and encouraged them to lick the brush.

It would violate my NDA to say anything more than: yes, all of the software I’ve helped developed use the name of mythical creatures during development
I thought the new big thing in astronomy is watching the anniversary of a black hole eating a star 3 billion years ago
I don’t know if this was true when they posted it, but conservation efforts are working! They’re considered near threatened for their small habitat and endangered to give it protected status
And what was the outcome of this IP theft? A video mocking a multi billion dollar corporation? They took down the specific product called out, but they still make extremely similar dslr bags to peak Design and they’re definitely still copying other companies designs. This is my point. IP laws only benefit the billionaire class and fuck over everyone else.
You’re saying that like it isn’t already rampant. IP laws are a textbook example of classist disenfranchisement. It’s a rule for which the capitalists are protected and not bound by, but which workers are bound by and do not receive those protections.
I work for a game company, the only reason I would tell you not to use a pirated version is because it probably isn’t cracked properly and will throw client-server errors. You’ll want to crack it in a way that will still receive the playlist updates
Content moderators are superexploited. These employees primarily work from African countries like Kenya, so there’s a whole second layer of neo-imperialism that I won’t get into right now. They’re given poverty wages, sometimes as low as $1.30/hr. Because they’re content moderators, they have to look at images and read descriptions of traumatic events without respect for mental health. OpenAI, Amazon, and Facebook have engaged in aggressive union busting tactics for these workers as well, though workers were still successful in organizing one of the largest labor unions in Africa.
You’re probably out of luck trying to convince this person of your opinion. However if it comes up again and you want this person to walk away, I’d recommend mentioning the horrible working conditions that content moderators have to go through. Contrarians don’t like unassailable facts.
CVE-2022-2601 was discovered in 2022, but for unclear reasons, Microsoft patched it only last Tuesday.
I respect their journalistic integrity for not speculating, but it was definitely because the NSA was exploiting it.
It’s a great balance between new and hot! You mostly see posts that picked up some interest within the first couple minutes of being posted
Kinda, it was only added a couple months ago
I’m pretty much always set to all, with hot being good for me most of the time. New and scaled are also nice ways to get some extra variety on slow days. I’ll rarely use active and top if I’ve been away for a while
My first car was a green buick lasabre that I got from a relative. It was held together by duct tape and redneck engineering, and wasn’t even supposed to make it through high school. As a condition for receiving the car, I had to continue calling it the green hornet. Ever since, my cars have been named after a famous movie vehicle. My current car is a blue civic, so naturally I had to name it the bluesmobile
Only 4? Those are rookie numbers
I’ve considered making a youtube channel discussing politics with a heavy emphasis on organizing unions. I’m extremely proud of my achievements as a part of a successful union campaign, and I want to share what I’ve learned, give folks some of my war stories, and teach people the political and practical necessities to organizing. The reason I haven’t is because I feel like I would get entirely drowned out in the political youtube space
Is it possible that they greeted you nonverbally since they were already in a conversation?
Don’t let it get to you. They’ll come around if you keep up the positive vibes. You’re also new, so you’ll be learning the behaviors of people you barely know. It’s also possible that these folks are quite friendly, but maintain a strict focus when they aren’t taking a break. There are a million different reasons why they didn’t verbally respond, so don’t take it personally.
The way I greet people at work is a basic “hey” and wave as I walk by, if they don’t seem too busy. If they respond I hear it, if they wave I’ll hopefully see it, and if they do nothing then I’ve already walked past them.
Burnout is real. Step back for a bit and return rested, instead of abandoning the fight for justice entirely. Taking breaks is just as important as being active.
It’s ok for symbols to have different meanings in different contexts. If someone is new to the context, they should research or ask about it. People that are familiar should provide the mutual understanding, provided they have the will and ability to educate.
