Privacy@lemmy.ml•Europol predicts a 2035 with no privacy, robot police, robots displacing workers, debates about "robot rights" and criminals commanding hundreds of drones simultaneously
1·28 days agoI’d like to watch the full length video. The link doesn’t work obviously. Can you point me in the right direction?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else feel unsatisfied with their installs being perfectly balanced and "optimized" - Weltschmerz
2·2 months agoAll good, and understandable. My Git is only local. Great for version control though and sharing across different machines.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else feel unsatisfied with their installs being perfectly balanced and "optimized" - Weltschmerz
2·2 months agoMy Linux journey started with Debian (which is still on the home server) but I now have Arch and Fedora (Sway spin) on my two laptops.
The laptops basically run the same apps and I’ve been working on configuring/ricing the Arch laptop to my liking.
I’m currently setting up a local Git repo (following this tutorial) so that my Arch config can be used on Fedora.
The cool thing about the Git approach is that it’s easy to make it publicly available if you choose … and easy to roll back if you screw something up.
I also have automated snapper snapshots set up for the later scenario 🤪

Meanwhile, Australia … “Hold my beer”
That may be your personal opinion, but I think you will find A LOT of people who will disagree with you!
Of all the reasons to debate Windows > Linux you chose UX. Windows UX sucks, whereas Linux can be just about anything you can image with a little effort.

Linux@lemmy.ml•back to distrohopping. I want a reliable OS (no rando ubuntu fork with no clear release/support schedule) with something else than Plasma or Gnome.
1·3 months agoEven easier if you choose XFCE during install and then add i3. You get all the benefits of a package of desktop tools pre installed and the fantastic i3 window manager to get around.

Linux Mint “Debian” edition. There, fixed it for you 😉

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Government Surveillance on Chinese vs US made phones
8·3 months agoI was in a training course recently run by 20 year veteran of Gov cyber security (not US).
When I asked him about GrapheneOS he said it was a good option and much better than vendor android or iOS, but that he uses Chinese phones (Huawei & Honor) for his personal devices exclusively these days.
Sounds like he had a pretty high turnover though and is obviously well aware of what information is shared/leaked and I imagine his devices are as locked down as they can be.
Surprised me though.
Could be an option if you really know what you’re doing. If not you might be better with a trusted provider like Graphene OS.
I’d also recommend installing UTM on your Mac and paying string with different distros in a virtual environment.
I’d recommend Fedora KDE Plasma.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you feel AI is going to be as bad as the movies say?
4·6 months agoI heard a different take yesterday from Corey Doctorow that the real concern is global economic collapse!
Not something I’d considered, but I would say a frightening possibility!
Are you using an endpoint in your country or overseas? I get massive variance when selecting servers further from where I actually live.
