Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does this look like an opportunist thief to you?
3·2 months agoDefinitely suspicious behavior. It’s plausible she didn’t notice them, or that she noticed them but had some other intent besides theft. I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions without further evidence.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do some "Democrats"/"leftists" discriminate despite the beliefs/most people being against that?
4·3 months agoThe things people say they believe and how people actually behave are only loosely related. Not many people have a fully formed and coherent ideology that’s also congruent with their real life.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats a skills or hobby worth learning that will be helpful down the road?
51·4 months agoThe basics of investing. Open a Roth IRA (or the closest equivalent if you’re not in the US) and then try to max it out every year. Learning how to manage money for the long term now will save you a whole lot of hassle down the road.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm new to lemmy, came from reddit. What's the lemmy etiquette like? How different is it from reddiqutte?
13·4 months agoThat doesn’t seem true though, most actual leftists don’t like tankies and the people on Lemmy complaining about tankies seem to mostly be leftists themselves. Tankies are like LaRouchites, no one takes them seriously because the things they profess tend to be silly and they usually have that obnoxious College freshman master-debater energy. It’s not a left or right thing.

21·6 months agoThat is correct, it’s been quite awhile now since UEFI became standard but almost everyone still calls it the BIOS. Although I’ve noticed the word firmware is starting to be used more as well.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•if an elective surgery gets canceled due to sick doctors, is there anyone to blame?
6·6 months agoIf the doctor was intentionally made ill, whoever is responsible is to blame. Otherwise, shit happens and it’s a no harm no foul situation.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you believe Luigi Mangione killed Brian Thompson? Can he be found guilty with the evidence against him?
69·6 months agoProbably and yes. From what I have seen there’s too much incriminating evidence for it to all be faked without assuming a level of competence from those involved that is very improbable.
21 and 17 can be a big gap, even 20 and 17 can be. It’s not as clear cut as 22, which can also be sketchy but is at least recognized as fully legal everywhere. I think there’s too much diversity in maturity and life experience at those young ages, the potential for issues increases so those kinds of relationships are inherently concerning in ways that relationships involving legal adults are not. I’m not saying they are inherently problematic, but if you know people with that kind of age gap you should be looking out for the underage person to ensure they aren’t being taken advantage of.
Definitely a warning sign. It really depends on the specifics because people mature at different rates, but there’s a much higher chance of it being problematic. There’s the half your age plus 7 rule, but it doesn’t really work if you are under 22.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think the Nobel Peace Prize still makes sense? If so, who would you give it to?
14·6 months agoMuch worse people have received it than him. Kissinger most notably.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I proposed a hypothetical plan while high, would it work in court?
5·6 months agoI’m not familiar with Florida laws but in much of the US anyone can legally be topless under certain conditions. I think it’s usually exposed genitalia and sexual intent that are specifically illegal but general toplessness without sexual intent that isn’t creating public disorder isn’t something you are likely to be prosecuted for. You could get harassed and possibly arrested but it’s unlikely to go further than that. If you really want to do this you should consult with an attorney to get prepared ahead of time.
I recently switched from Google Photos to Ente.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What future study are you waiting for that will completely state the obvious about what we knew about all along?
23·6 months agoAll that plastic inundating the environment and accumulating in our bodies is actually a serious problem.

11·7 months agohttps://xerces.org/ may have info you are looking for. Depending on where you live you may be able to find seeds of local flowering plants that do well as a lawn replacement, for example: https://northwestmeadowscapes.com/
I was looking into Fairphone and got sketched out, they do not really seem particularly trustworthy or competent.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something that you mess up frequently enough that you should know better, but you continue to do it anyway?
11·8 months agoLeaving my wet towel somewhere it doesnt belong after a shower. I am a lot better than I used to be but I still forget it regularly.
