I’ve been unsuccessful in getting the FitGirl and DODI repacks of Dark Souls Remastered to run on my CachyOS laptop. I’ve tried Lutris, Heroic, Faugus, and Bottles and I’ve tried various combinations of runtimes ranging from Proton, Wine, UWU, etc, but the best I can get is the game runs for about 30 seconds, then freezes.
The thing is, it works fine on my partner’s computer. She has an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 where as I have an Intel Core Ultra X7 358H. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong and the Lutris logs aren’t very clear as to why the game is freezing. I’ve even installed the vulkan-intel drives.
EDIT: I downloaded The Witcher 3 as a standalone installer from my GoG library, proceeded to install it using the same method and it worked fine. None of my steam games have issues either, which includes mostly indies, but also Cyberpunk 2077. I got Black Myth Wukong to work using the same install method. I’m wondering if the Dark Souls Repack is just bad or too old for my hardware?

They are both APUs so there is no dGPU. Her system has 64GB of RAM from before the RAM crisis, mine only has 32GB. We’re both on the latest version of CachyOS, though she uses Niri and I use KDE Plasma. I was using Niri but I abandoned it because I thought it was the culprit. Obviously I was wrong because it worked fine on her machine.

Lots of people run the game on KDE.
You need to run the loggers I listed you to see where the halt lies. This game does prefer 2+GB of dedicated VRAM.

have you tried running/installing the repack via steam? that’s what I do and I rarely have issues. at least not as many issues if I were to run/install it via Lutris.
I don’t know other than that. Repacks on Linux are hit or miss.
Can you share the Lutris logs? And how did you install the game?
I’m using Lutris through
flatpak, it seems to be more complaint than installing it frompacman. I’m usingProton-CachyOS Latest. I used the built-in installer “install from installer” option within Lutris.I tried including the log file from Lutris, but it keeps giving me an error, I think it’s too big to share in the body of this reply?
Lutris as a Flatpak can have issues because it’s running in a sandboxed environment. I’d suggest you use the native package instead. Also I don’t use Lutris and don’t know what “install from installer” means. Have you installed the game to a directory on your computer? If yes, you can simply add the game manually to Lutris by pointing Lutris to the executable. Also maybe post the log here: https://privatebin.net/
Maybe you need to adjust the ulimit?

ulimit -Hnand it was over 1 million, so I don’t think that was it.
