If they are going to compile Coreboot for every motherboard they use, does this mean we could run Coreboot on newer hardware too? Are their efforts FOSS?
Coreboot and Libreboot efforts have all but stopped other than Google and System76 - I’m just wondering why the community doesn’t seem to pick up alongside such efforts for newer motherboards.

AMD is planning to introduce OpenSIL in a few years, which is as far as I understand equivalent to coreboot, so I wouldn’t necessary agree with that statement.
Hi, thanks for mentioning OpenSIL. I have been trying to promote OpenSIL on Lemmy for a bit now.
However, OpenSIL is not an equivalent to Coreboot, from what I understand. I believe it sits beneath the BIOS/UEFI, since it is the set of libraries that initialise the silicon in the machine (OpenSIL: Open-Source Silicon Initialization Library).
However, OpenSIL will definitely enable Coreboot and Libreboot development by leaps and bounds compared to what it is now, on AMD hardware. I can’t wait for 2027.

Are you going to add support for the new mobos? I’m not :P it’s the open source dream. I think manufacturers should contribute to coreboot and use it, and probably will eventually. Think of the savings in licensing cost :P plus they get free labour from the community sometimes.
I hope that Framework would have this in the future!
