Not common here in the US, but I’ve worked in retail, so I do it. I know how annoying / slow it can be.

Americans often don’t also bag their own to groceries, which also slows the line down. Checkout lines become much shorter if you ready things for scanning and help with bagging.

But remember, the current concern is with Mastodon, NOT Lemmy. Lemmy can’t actually view the post types that Masto and Threads make. Wendy’s can post all the Threads ads they want - we’re not going to see them here. We can’t. That hasn’t been built.

Try it. Go view someone’s Mastodon account in Lemmy. You don’t see their posts.

Yes, my point remains. Even if a Lemmy instance is federated with masto or threads, the content does not appear here on Lemmy right now. It’s physically impossible. Lemmy literally has no code written to support self posts and to follow users.

For example, here is NPR’s masto account viewed through Lemmy.world. You get their name, avatar, banner, and bio….but zero content.

Until lemmy decides to copy Reddit’s user pages, this isn’t a problem. Federate, defederate - makes now difference for lemmy right now.

Is this really a problem for Lemmy though? Threads content isn’t going to show up here because threads doesn’t have communities, and Lemmy doesn’t allow you to follow people.

From what I can tell, all the top selling phones have something etched on the enclosure. That said, unbranded cases are pretty easy to find, and if you don’t want the bulk of a case, there are some interesting ultra slim cases on the market.

A lot of name brand case companies like to brand their cases, but if you look for off brand stuff from China, you can find a lot of cases with no branding.

Easier said than done in a lot of American cities and burbs. I’ve tried to go without a car, and it just hasn’t been practical.

I’m on the edge of a denser American metro that actually has a subway, and when I ditched the car for some of my jobs, I added several hours of commute to my day, and it honestly started to wear on me physically.

When I have the money I’ll probably jump over to an EV. It seems like the most reasonable solution for where I live and work.

I feel like that’s kind of the case for a lot of things here. God forbid you find anything remotely positive about the wrong brand of phone, operating system or web browser. You’re unwelcome.

Honestly, I would have WAY rather had some doctors tell me “I don’t know, let me get another opinion from someone,” instead of misdiagnosing me because they felt they needed to confidently give me a bad answer.

That shit would’ve saved me a lot of pain, suffering, and surgical procedures.

Possibly, although those instances also have less content. I remember starting out with a BeeHaw account like many of us here. Trade off was often less content, no ability to create your own communities, but less people lashing out at each other.

The thing that actually worried me a little bit more was people upvoting the aggressive comments to be top comments.

I was reading some thread over at !politics@lemmy.world today, and a lot of stuff advocating for political violence were the top comments. Mods yanked it, but nevertheless, people were vibing with some comments about dragging people through the street. I felt like I was on X/Twitter.

IMHO, the best folks always have some sense of impostor syndrome. It compels them to think critically through their work, and they tend to be the folks that ask others for their opinions.

Overly confident people often don’t do that shit, but they also often mesmerize people with their confidence and fail up. Despite their poor performance, they climb the ladder.

That’s not to say that people shouldn’t be confident about your abilities. They should. That said, I try to judge people on what they’ve done, not how charming they are.
