Great post. It seems like a lot of people aren’t used to using the product of community efforts over commercial efforts and their expectations and feeling of entitlement match that experience. Like they’ve bought a product and want to complain to the manager when they experience a problem.
I’m not a coder but I relate to being a lot more attracted to the idea of problem solving than writing a well-formed document that communicates ideas clearly, haha.
That’s the most painful part of all.
Create a sleep schedule and stick to it religiously. Drink more water.
Back in 1999 I came across a copy of this book. Not a great book, I wouldn’t recommend it even if it weren’t decades out of date at this point. But it came with a CD-ROM with Red Hat Linux 6.2 which I installed on the family computer and never really looked back. I haven’t had a Windows install since 2004ish.
I’ve never really been an evangelist about it, though. And I would say that I was obsessed at one point but that’s waned quite a bit in the last few years. I’m still Linux only but messing about with computers generally quite a lot less.
Similar experience. My current install is not as old due to hardware failure but I’ve been using arch since 2007ish and it’s been stable enough through all that concurrent with sort of losing interest in being an admin for a hobby in the last few years that I’ve honestly got kind of bad at administrating the thing, haha. But it hardly matters because issues are rare.
Are we certain this complaint was lodged by the Linux Foundation? Frequently DMCA takedowns happen because someone who is not the original rights holder made the complaint. Even when there’s no actual rights being violated. Essentially people taking advantage of automated systems or just people not wanting to deal with possible legal issues, trolling of a different sort.
As far as I can tell most nights I fall asleep immediately. Occasionally I’ll have some trouble but not so often that I can remember the last time.
If this is accurate it’s particularly funny in light of the fact that every instance can have a community of a given name. It’s not taken for every instance once one instance makes a community of a particular name, haha.
You’re thinking about it the wrong way. Despite a major hub of lemmy being down if you have an account on another instance you can continue using the network nearly as though nothing had happened. Individual instances may have greater or lesser reliability but the social network is very robust.
I suspect the ambiguous design is intentional.
Is kbin not federated with lemmynsfw? That’s where most of the porn posts I see come from.
Meme communities are by far the most popular on the site, and will likely remain very popular at the least as it grows. Lots of other content is out there, but you have to curate your subscriptions and use that view to not have it drowned out.
Comments are actually the most important thing. The ‘social’ part of social media. The thing people are looking for from sites like this. Lemmy is the planter, posts the plant. Discussion is the fruit we’re interested in harvesting.
Making the world safe for margaritas.
I wonder if they’ll make these old memes their personality while claiming they were born in the wrong generation.
Tabasco or some other hot sauce in the pizza sauce would be a lot more ideal, but on top is acceptable if that’s what’s available.
