Agreed, flatpaks are great for desktop apps. I use Nix for the majority of my packages, but I use flatpak for proprietary for the sandboxing.

What does uBlue switching away from it have to do with someone wanting to install it on Silverblue?
Nix is useful for CLI packages, which aren’t very simple to use through flatpak. It also has far more packages, and is very useful for creating development environments.
I see, I only use distrobox for building software that doesn’t easily run on NixOS, so that likely shouldn’t matter too much for me.
I have never heard of toolbx before, can anyone share how it compares to Distrobox? I’ve been using that for some time.
Bottles should make it really simple. You might run into the occasional problem with the installers, but they usually have workarounds.
It also says they’re going to be using Framework laptops which is equally cool!
I really like ProtonVPN with the unlimited plan. Comes with their premium email, drive, and password manager for $8-12 a month (depending on what plan length you buy)
ffmpeg is working fine for jellyfin, so I believe it’s unmanic. i’ll take a look at tdarr.
I’ll give that a try, thanks.
It does have a GPU and Jellyfin is set up to use it, but I might need to do some more work to get unmanic to use it since it’s in a container. I didn’t think it would need my GPU for this since it shouldn’t require transcoding.
I was avoiding writing an ffmpeg script to do this in a somewhat organized way, but it probably is the best option. I’ll look into it.
MKVToolNix did look like it could do a good job with this, but I have a lot of files that aren’t mkv

My server doesn’t have any other performance problems, it handles transcoding for jellyfin great. Maybe I’ll just reach out in the unmanic discord to try to figure out why this is happening.
That’s what I’ve been thinking, but I don’t know how that could be happening. I only have a plugin to remove unwanted audio tracks and another to remove unwanted subs enabled. Despite this, whenever I start the container every other service on the server becomes unusable.
It’s especially confusing because the server can handle transcoding multiple streams on Jellyfin at the same time without a problem.
ah I may have mixed its behaviour up with kate
gedit uses polkit and should prompt you with a password when modifying a file that needs root priviledges. you shouldn’t have to run it as root
They didn’t enforce it on an unrelated project, they enforced it on Vaxry, an FDO contributor.
I generally would for desktop use, and absolutely wouldn’t rexommend them for a new user.
