AI and machine learning are very similar (if not identical) things, just one has been turned into a marketing hype word a whole lot more than the other.

for 3d printed gun people (not personally one of them, just browsed their subreddit once), they use some vaguely blockchain crypto related p2p video host called LBRY, not sure if that model is scalable though, as it seems to be based around free p2p hosting like torrents, although there was some mention of hosting fees, presumably in crypto? not sure
the infrastructure of the pirate streaming sites is impressive, but I bet that is still orders of magnitude easier than hosting youtube.
anduril (creepy military defense company from right wing tech bro) has made this, I’m sure its absurdly expensive though, and I don’t think they sell to random people.
pretty sure it can run on either, but cpus are slow compared to gpus, often to the point of being impractical
I mean it might be more secure, it might be less secure, we just can’t read through the source for windows, so we won’t know until linux is attacked as much as windows. It would (will?) definitely be interesting to find out.
freecad is horrible, not really worth trying.
I’ve heard of people getting fusion 360 running great with a snap, but others say it has issues. the github for it is being actively maintained, so thats a good sign at least.
I tried to get siemens solid edge working through wine, but it was mostly broken and I didn’t dig too deep into troubleshooting, I just dualboot windows for fussy programs and anticheats
reminds me of geowizards episodes geolocating vacation photos for fun. this one was insane, similar in detail to the photo in the tweet
I think one way is to use a domain host that is located in some country that doesn’t care at all.
why do we need to drop hyprland over the lead dev’s views, they are pretty bad, but its an open source project, and I joined the discord server and didn’t immediately see any issues. vaxry even made a point of saying that they will accept PRs as long as they are good quality, regardless of personal views.
yes, but you can only download from peers with port forwarding enabled, and you can also only upload to port forwarding peers, so generally its fine for downloading, but if you want to keep ratio (uploading) on a private tracker you need port forwarding
this is wild. people who use open source software are a small small minority, and its good to have a diverse group of friends, not a tiny insulated group of the internet. dropping a friend over their choice of messaging app is pathetic
I converted a pdf book scan to epub with tessaract ocr and calibre, it didn’t need any programming, but the end result did have a typo every few paragraphs. Most were very similar to each other though, so a few hours cleaning it up would’ve made it pretty readable.
it took a bit to learn but now its great
captain disillusion still makes videos, just very slowly because of how much work each one is
youtube might never really die though, that business model is just so incredibly dependant on scale, and hosting ridiculous amounts of data, that it seems nearly impossible for something else to start up
i really dont think ai is the solution to this problem. if humans made it, humans can crack it
i dont save ALL videos, i only save videos i would really miss if they disappeared.
some people have the storage to save entire channels though, and if i had the space for it i might do the same
Yeah, I got a perfectly good phone for half the price of buying new
our brain is a black box, we accept that. (and control the outcomes with procedures, checklists, etc)
It feels like lots of prefessionals can’t exactly explain every single aspect of how they do what they do, sometimes it just feels right.
