macOS over Ubuntu (don’t get me started on Windows). I use macOS on my MacBook Air and it’s just so well thought out. Ubuntu is decent but I wouldn’t want to use it for my daily work.

I love Obsidian and use it to manage my Markdown files and I’m in awe. Checked out Logseq as well but it didn’t work for me.

VS Code. As much as I hate Microsoft, this is great. I’ll likely look for a community-supported version without the creepy telemetry shit though.

Have you read any of it or did you just skim Wikipedia? I’m perfectly aware of people’s biases and that he’s likely to tend towards a pro-Russian spin. But after years of researching I can’t deny that a lot of his claims aren’t that unlikely.

From a Western perspective, you’ll have a hard time reading fringe criticism of the West without someone chanting “bUt tHiS iS RuSSian prOpAganDa” from the sides. The immediate shift in reporting about Ukrainian politics in Western media was so blatantly obvious propaganda and yet you come at me with this.

We’ve all been fed propaganda since the 40s, from all sides, in every country, the media is either heavily centralized or state-controlled, no journalist covering socialist/anarchist topics is likely to dig deeper into this (hell, they’re likely fighting for truth in smaller areas where they can actually move the needle, more power to them), we have almost no real journalists with reach and impact left, Assange has shown that investigative journalism is as good as dead, we’re being fed Ministry of Truth crap as “fact checks” and we’ve all been programmed with our go-to responses for dissenting voices. I’ve had my share of normie “Anarchists” coming at me only to debunk their BS as centrist garbage dressed in nice patches, shirts and rhetorics.

Have you debated a historian at a university about Fomenko (and they actually read it!) and hit them with facts until they had to admit that a lot of our history was under strict control of very few influential people of shady untrustworthy organisations and that there’s no irrefutable proof that certain documents, drawing and writings haven’t been either been manipulated or may be outright forgeries and that there’s a lot of trust involved in keeping it all together?

Just consider it a hobby interest of mine if it makes you sleep any better. If you read at least one of Fomenko’s books, let’s debate without resorting to boring “you’re basically Putin’s right hand” rhetoric.

Edit: To be clear, I’m not into genetics, I don’t care who belongs to which race, I don’t want to paddle to any nation state that their narrative about some race being superior is true. I can read scholars without having to adopt their entire world view.

We had the mayor of Ankara in Turkey claiming that artificial earth quakes were used against Turkey way before 2023, though the USS Nitze docked in a Turkish port in the Black Sea just a couple of days before the February 6th earthquakes), right when Turkey was stalling for Sweden to join NATO. There’s videos out there of people filming bright blue-ish lights coming from a central source the night before the earthquakes happened.

The longest time I thought this was all bullshit but the more I dug into it, the less I was able to convince myself that this is all just made up nonsense from idiots on the Internet. I’m not on the “it’s all HAARP!!” train but come on, let’s keep the discussion a bit more civil?

Almost never did, to be honest, but I’m sure I missed out on a lot of interesting stuff because of it.

The government has way too much influence over children already. Governments could do so much for children that would actually benefit them (better education, free lunch at school, better public libraries, ensure no kids are starving because of poor parents, no wars in foreign countries, whatever) but instead they use children to increase their control over people.

The West is already losing. What worries me is that Western elites will sacrifice us all just keep their unipolar world order while the instability helps prop up the populist right due to a lack of alternatives.

I don’t expect Russia/Wagner to care much about the wellbeing of Africans but since they never colonized and enslaved them, I get why Africans and Russians will unite for now.

Active Edge, which LG originally came up with and that Google adopted with the Pixel 2. Of course they dropped it after a few devices.

It was basically a button/key press that you could configure to trigger actions by firmly applying pressure with you hands around the lower third of your phone. It gave a very satisfying haptic vibration response based on the amount of pressure you applied and you could even set the amount of pressure until it was triggered. It had something magickal about it.

All this defederation drama reminds me of the old 90s/2000s forum days where communities where split into ever smaller groups over rather banal disagreements until you had like dozens of forums with ever smaller userbases and various grades of moderation policies and technical capabilities, often leading to complete data lass after some admins noticed that there’s actual work behind running internet services for lots of users. I worry the Fediverse is headed in a similar direction, though I hope I’m wrong.

Pulling out the banhammer and limiting almost 10k users for a disagreement between admins feels childish, imho. They could’ve just as well blocked just the admin of firefish.social from interacting with mastodon.art users. If I were on mastodon.art, I’d be migrating to space with saner administration.

I can’t recommend the Google TV/Chromecast if you have to interact with multiple apps or plan on using the Discover screen or search. The remote is finicky and feels cheap and the device itself is totally underpowered for Google TV. Its Amlogic SoC is slow as fuck and often drops frames and the 2GB of memory are barely enough to keep the bloated interface in memory while the storage is often full even after just installing a few apps. It has gotten a bit better after even Google had to admit that performance was abysmal but the optimizations just fixed the most obvious shortcomings.

I have sinced unsubscribed from all streaming services and just rely on the put.io app on Google TV to handle my media consumption needs and it is good enough for that. So if you just need the Stremio app (which I haven’t used myself) to access local content, you should be fine. I never saw it struggle with 4k HDR content nor did I encounter A/V sync issues.

I’m currently building a Jungian shadow work (a kind of psycho therapy) web app using local machine learning and it’s doing a decent enough job to continue developing it.

ChatGPT 4.0 is also quite helpful in making my python code less terrible and it’s good at guiding me through wherever I’m facing challenges, since I’m more of an ops person instead of a developer. Can’t complain, though the coding quality of GPT4.0 has declined noticably within the last weeks.
