I mentioned in another post (mot everyday but often enough its an impediment socially)

That I sometimes have fits of feeling the urge to clear my throat and someone mentioned silent reflux. I just saw the throat dr and he said to take gaviscon (alginic acid) and to pursue the allergy shots I mentioned i was considering.

What other measures should i take to reduce or eliminate reflux? I also have an adjustable bed so im assuming its good to have it slightly sloping downwards so the head is highest and body is on a downwards slope with feet at lowest

Actual experience heartburn is quite rare for me altho I always kept Tums around and recently invested in a bottle of Gaviscon tablets

Hi! I don’t usually comment (I get anxious about replies), but I just wanted to share that, in our case, with those symptoms, the reflux was caused by celiac disease. It never crossed our mind, but that was it.

Thanks :). There are two test (I know of): a blood test that looks for gluten antibodies (this one can sometimes give a false negative), and an intestinal biopsy (100% accurate). In any case, is extremely important that you don’t go in a gluten free diet beforehand, to avoid masking the symptoms. I mean, a celiac with a perfect diet, won’t have antibodies nor damage in the interstines, making boths test useless.

Diet. Many people report reflux resolving when doing ketogenic or zero carb diets.

I’ve been on a PPI for 6 years and I still get this from time to time. Try to avoid carbonated drinks, spicy food, and high-acidity food where you can. I find it helpful to lay on my left side in the recovery position if it gets too bad rather than just elevating my head, but YMMV. Tums helps a bit, but if I get it bad enough, sometimes an anti-gas pill helps me as well. Good luck.

Apple cider vinegar pills. I took two each morning. I could feel my stomach was very acidic, but it didn’t really escape as regular reflux. Something about your stomach not being acidic enough to close the sphincter, so making it more acidic on purpose did the trick.
