Documentation tends to be “you take what you can get” on both sides. Are you going to turn down a PR because there aren’t supporting docs? That’s a good way to drive off developers too.
Generally someone who is annoyed with having to figure it out is the one who writes the documentation.
I forgot to mention Mumble as an example. It was many years ago, so hopefully things have improved by now, but the dependencies and setup for that were insane. I felt like I’d made a mess of my primary OS by the time I was done.
He forgot some of the biggest reasons.
Developers, open source or otherwise, should generally be excited about people “taking their jobs”. Because you’re going to have churn of developers over time, and if you’re not bringing in fresh blood, then your project is eventually going to die. Do you really want to maintain every project you work on for the rest of your life? Encourage new blood. Do what you can to accept new ideas and directions unless you have very good and explicit reasons not to. If someone has a sightly different vision and is willing to hop that initial barrier and is willing to put in more work than you, don’t undervalue that. Be willing to compromise a little to bring in a new developer. Sometimes you have to say no, but consider that you’re saying no to a person who wants to volunteer their time to do work for you.
On the other hand, there are tons of people who say they’re eager to work on your project. You invest a little time into them, they provide nothing, and then vanish. It’s easy to get jaded when you keep running into people who are more words than action. Be very careful what you promise you’ll do, and if someone invests their time to help you, try to actually do what you said you would.

Yeah, there’s really nothing wrong with a 50 year old dating a 19 year old. Age is just a number. There’s no power imbalance there or expectations. It’s perfectly healthy for the 19 year old to get into a long term relationship where their partner is going to be 70 before they’re 40.
Or, maybe, half your age + 7 is a good rule. It’s pretty lenient.

One of my last comments on Reddit was about this.
The biggest difference I’ve noticed is that people have stopped reading sentences. They’ll read all the words and then upvote based on the feeling those individual words give them. They won’t consider the meaning of all those words put together.
And yeah, “upvote does not mean agree” is something Reddit has always struggled with, but it has definitely had exponential growth lately.
It has made me start writing more clearly. There are comments I’ve written that have been wildly misinterpreted from my actual meaning. Part of that is that I tend towards sarcasm, and it doesn’t translate well over the internet no matter how absurd I get with it. But I’ve also started aiming to use more simple sentence structure.
New roof, solar panels, battery, EV, remodel part of the house, new siding, buy a small house in my neighborhood to function as a guest house, take care of my parents, spend a couple months in Europe.
Oh, you meant the rest of it. Government bonds are always good. You can also use more than one bank to expand the $250k limit (which applies per account type and bank). A trust, for example, is insured separately from your checking account.
Past that, I couldn’t tell you. Your financial advisor would though, just make sure they have a “fiduciary duty” to serve your interests.

I wouldn’t downplay long Covid. And if I had to do it again, I’d change some things. But saying that once in an appropriate thread seems pretty innocuous to me.

I’ve been permanently banned from the League of Legends subreddit for saying a team that had caught Covid wouldn’t die because they’re young and vaccinated. In a post about them having caught Covid. And in response to someone calling it a fatal disease (which it can be for some, but really isn’t if you’re 20, vaccinated, and otherwise healthy).
The US government as a whole, comparatively, are the good guys in this. The US government is pretty cautious and tends to shy away from spreading propaganda to its own people.
There are a lot of caveats there, absolutely. I’ll get into some of those. But let’s not pretend the US government is on par with the Russian or Chinese governments when it comes to social media propaganda.
The GOP being in bed with the Russians and collaboratively pushing narratives is not being done on behalf of the government. And I doubt whatever is happening at Elgin is targeting Americans.
The cats appreciate it, and it makes things less urgent. Gives more time when we’re out in vacation. They don’t really use the old one anymore.
You still have to deal with it in the end though.

I was in M2-XFE. That whole experience certainly taught a lot about the power of narrative and propaganda. And the later blockade showed what leadership failures look like.
We always had the advantage in that blockade, and could have stayed there for another year had the allies stuck together. Or we could have executed real plans to break them and end the war. Instead we did the worst of both.
