Having read the article, it sounds like the logical evolution of VLC. FAST Channels are here to stay and they actually are a vital thing in a world where Google have a monopoly on online video. While they’re not what I would go for, I’m glad they’re available as even my cable provider offers FAST channels.

Will be interesting to see VLC compete with JWPlayer and the various forks of it.

Also I don’t think anyone disagrees that the core needs rewriting and the UI needs a refresh. Wonder when Android will start seeing these builds on the beta channel.

Your frustration is palpable and that’s disappointing. Lemmy has improved a lot since we all arrived while the software experience is a lot smoother, admins have been clamouring for moderation tools the whole time. Ultimately there needs to be more contribution to do everything that everyone wants, but moderation needs to be a higher priority for sure.

I will say this though. I know you dislike developers discussing, disagreeing or even arguing, but I actually think it’s nice to see things in the open.

Good read. BlueSky basically gives people the feeling that they’re in control, but actually is in control of everything. It’s like a house with no electricity.

Let’s be honest though, “don’t set a wallpaper, in case they track you” is extreme. It’s the privacy equivalent of the £1000 Ethernet Cables.

I use Muzei and my wallpaper changes every half hour, so I’m not really affected.

But even if I was, so the fuck what? If you’re sacrificing your personal enjoyment of your phone for privacy, you’re either a secret agent or you’re overly paranoid.

This is the great missing answer. As geeks we get so caught up in the how, we forget the what. Thank you for explaining so clearly.

I was curious as to what this does, so clicked the GitHub and it didn’t actually say, so clicked the GitHub that this GitHub links to and that didn’t say, clicked the original and found out that the original project is a YouTube video downloader. Cool! But then I went back to your GitHub and couldn’t find out why you felt it a good idea to be able to download YouTube videos and add them to your storage? I’m assuming that’s what this does.

And why it integrates with Jellyfin?

Absolutely agree with that.

I would argue that no one should install any snaps.
