yt-dlp version 2026.08.19
redlib is an interface you may use if you want to read content from reddit but without ads, bloat, tracking and java. You cannot post but you can read.
I found some videos I’d like to download but I don’t know how.
To download videos from elsewhere I run yt-dlp and that works fine, but pasting the redlib url where the video is posted returns “Unable to download webpage: HTTP Error 429: Too Many Requests”
solutions appreciated
Someone else said you should try the most recent version. They’re right. You just copy the file into some place like ~/.local/bin/, set it executable with chmod +x and add its location to your $PATH. You will need to apt remove yt-dlp from your system to get rid of the old apt version. From that point forward using the -U flag when you invoke yt-dlp will first check for and install an update if needed before doing the thing you asked for.
Someone else said Reddit is closing off their api. This is so.
You’re getting 429 so try changing your vpn endpoint and see if that helps you out.
reddit is changing access to it’s api – you might need to find another alternative.
EZ: Don’t support reddit.
To get the best quality version, I had to copy the video address from the default reddit site and feed that address to yt-dlp. The alternative is to inspect the redlib page source, get the video link source and give that to yt-dlp.
At that point we might as well copy the link as curl command
Try the nightly build:
